Can you imagine what else you can do with your plasma cutting machine? You could say that is just a machine for cutting metals. But that is not all! You can go even further and create an incredible piece of art. You can become an artist with this machine. Like our interviewee, Mr. Giovani Rossetti known as ILROSS.

Giovanni is a popular influencer in the metal artist community on social media. Not only does he create fabulous sculptures, statues and works of art in metal, but he’s much more than that. He is also known for his educational videos on cutting and welding metals, working with different types of equipment, and using technology to make work easier.

We asked Giovanni for a short interview to give us a brief introduction to his activities, to tell us about the demanding tasks that the equipment has to fulfil and why he uses by Thermacut®.

Mr. Rossetti, tell us please, what your business is about and how did you get into?

First of all, call me Ross, I prefer to be confidential as with the users who follow me.

For about three years I have been working full-time on content creation, for companies that want to promote their products, that need content for internal and external training and more. I also offer consultancy to companies that are not familiar with the world of social media to softly approach this world with great potential. At the same time, I create content on my YouTube channel ILROSS and related social networks with the aim of sharing creativity and knowledge by mixing my twenty years of experience as a surveyor on civil and industrial construction sites with the passion for technology.

What was your personal biggest challenge in cutting?

As with all the technologies I approach, the challenge is to study the product and create contents that allows others to approach it in the clearest and simplest way possible. Very often, companies that deal with metalworking “must” embrace these technologies but do not have the same passion and enthusiasm for technology that I have… so my role can be of great help to them. It is also a great satisfaction to be contacted by companies who thank me for the usefulness of the video tutorials that I have created, for example videos on the basic settings of the machine or videos on cutting processes starting from the library on the machine.

Giovanni, all your artist work is about metals and metal processing. What materials do you work the most with?

Metal is my main passion, and it is what I work most on both in artistic creations and workshop projects, given my past in construction I have acquired a lot of manual skills and I enjoy using everything that comes to mind… I have made statues in concrete, recycled paper and I have projects in wood, carbon fiber, etc. ready on the to do list, I just need 48-hour days.

What equipment do you usually use and what kind of job do you do most often?

The equipment I use most is the welding machine, but it is only a small part of the whole process. The most important part of my work is the sharing of contents, second and no less important is the design, the prototyping before creating the final projects. I use the computer and fusion360 a lot, projects which I then convert for the simplest and most quick way to create what I have designed, it can be 3D printing, cutting with the CNC plasma or a CNC milling machine.

What would you advise a beginner who is considering buying a CNC cutting machine?

My advice.. I always repeat it in all the reviews. “The perfect product does not exist but there is a perfect product that meets needs” So don’t look for the product that on paper is more powerful, faster, more of everything. The choice must be made by evaluating work needs, economic possibilities, considerations on the simplicity of the system and its maintenance, evaluations on the user experience… Look around, watch videos, take a test and ask as many questions as possible. Download the manual first, so that you know in advance and have no surprises later.

What are the main advantages you see in buying the whole cutting solution?

The EX-TRACK® CNC plasma table amazed me from the first meeting at the Lamiera fair in Milan, where I saw the demo unit. An extreme structural simplicity allows the material to be loaded without damaging parts of the structure thanks to the movement parts located on the left side, the great convenience of having a library of shapes on board which allows the user to create cuts, plates, flanges, hooks, reinforcements without having to go through computer design and obviously the price, a product accessible even to small workshops.

How often do you use plasma cutting technology for metal cutting?

It depends on the complexity of the projects I make, cutting is a part of the process, like designing, welding and finishing.
