In the shipbuilding and offshore industry, wind and weather have a considerable influence on all stages of the manufacturing processes. These include very large and complex structures and the cutting of thick plates of different materials. With a focus on robustness of the technology and productivity of the process, the highest requirements are placed on the cutting solutions. Different approval requirements have to be fulfilled by major global shipyards, offshore fabricators, smaller specialist shipyards and boat builders. To save time, energy and money, large segments have to be precisely cut so that they can be welded without any reworking or with only minor reworking.
Cutting thick-walled plates distortion-free
The better the cuts, the better and easier the welding. THERMACUT® offers suitable solutions for manual and mechanized as well as automated cutting processes. They can be used when thick-walled plates must be cut without distortion, for example for foundation structures of drilling rigs and wind power plants, as well as passenger, ferry and container ships. For the construction of decks and bulkheads THERMACUT® cutting solutions are used to cut large panels and apply markings for the welding process. Thick plates can be cut by plasma cutting systems, and non-alloy, or low-alloy steel up to 300 mm thickness can be cut with THERMACUT® oxy-fuel cutting solutions. For smaller cutting tasks manual cutting solutions are available. Bigger parts and repeated cutting tasks are often cut by mechanized cutting solutions.
